We’ve compiled a list of the 10 must-see wedding movies for your viewing pleasure.
So, the coronavirus drew a big fat X on your wedding plans and you’re not sure what your wedding will look like when it finally happens.
There’s a ton of emotions that come with postponing (or even canceling) your wedding, so what better way to cheer yourself up than with one (or all) of our must-see wedding movies!
Side note: Did you know that on average American’s stream eight hours of TV PER DAY since the coronavirus started? |
1. The Wedding Planner
Alright, alright, alright…
Jennifer Lopez and Matthew Conaughey (and Alex Karev aka Justin Chambers) star in this 2001 romantic comedy in which a wedding planner falls for the groom-to-be.
Even though this wedding movie comes in at a 16% Rotten Tomatoes score, we think it’s an absolute must-see if you’re in the middle of planning your wedding.
2. Bridesmaids
Kristen Wiig and Maya Rudolph, do we need to say more?
While we agree, being the maid-of-honor is not always easy, we hope that no actual wedding is as bad-luck-ridden as this wedding movie.
Believe it or not, it was actually nominated for two Academy Awards.
And we thank it for giving us amazing GIFs that just keep on giving, like this one.
3. Crazy Rich Asians
Talk about extravagant!
Although it’s not the protagonists’ wedding that’s at the center of the plot, this wedding movie gives us plenty of inspiration from how to plan an unforgettable bachelor(ette) party to making a statement walking down the aisle.
4. The Proposal
Who would’ve thought that Sandra Bullock and Ryan Reynolds fall in love (for real) after staging their engagement to avoid deportation?
Uhm, everybody! Duh.
But hey! What the movie is lacking in depth, it makes up for with comedy. I mean, who could forget Betty White chanting Get Low around the fire?
5. My Big Fat Greek Wedding
If you or your fiancé have a large (international) family, you will understand what Toula and Ian are going through.
And did you know that this wedding movie was one of the highest-grossing romantic comedies of all time?
6. Sex and the City
Spoiler: Carrie and Big finally tie the knot!
However, it’s not necessarily a straight road for them. They planned the big extravagant wedding the public expects but ultimately found happiness in a small and intimate ceremony.
Especially couples who had to rethink their wedding plans due to Covid-19 will know what that feels like.
7. Runaway Bride
The moral of the story is that sometimes you have to overcome your fear to find something beautiful, like Richard Gere at the end of the aisle.
This wedding movie is an absolute classic and must-see for brides-to-be.
8. Love Actually
What’s better than a love story?
How about nine interwoven love stories in one must-see wedding movie!
Who doesn’t get goosebumps when the choir starts singing Love Is All You Need and it turns into an all-out flashmob!
(And how absolutely adorable is this real-life version of the scene?)
9. 27 Dresses
Always the bridesmaid, never the bride!
This is a must-see wedding movie for you and your bridesmaids and serves as a reminder to keep your friends in mind when choosing your bridesmaids dresses.
10. Bride Wars
Anne Hathaway and Kate Hudson go from BFFs to mortal enemies while planning the wedding of their dreams.
This wedding movie is a good reminder of several wedding DON’Ts like dying your hair or getting a spray tan at the last minute.
