With the destruction left behind after Hurricane Matthew across the Southeastern United States in mid-2016 and with the winter weather bringing in unexpected snow, many couples are dealing with having their wedding in rain, snow or even worse, rescheduled or cancelled.

All couples hope to have the perfect weather on their wedding day. Unfortunately, Mother Nature has a mind of her own. So it’s best to prepare for all sorts of weather issues that could come your way.

Below are some tips for how to deal with unexpected wedding weather:

-Book a venue with plenty of indoor space available for your guests.

-If you have your heart set on an outdoor venue make sure there is enough tent space for your guests. Some venues don’t provide tents or outdoor heaters. Ask your venue for advice on where to get these items from as they probably know a company nearby that most clients use or have a partnership with a company to provide those for an additional charge.

-Have a backup plan ahead of time and look over every detail with your wedding planner to make sure nothing is overlooked.

-Rain is what most couples worry about, but depending on where and when you’re getting married other types of weather can affect your plans. In the winter a blizzard may alter some of your wedding plans, or in the Southeast hurricanes can change everyone’s travel plans. If the weather is so bad that guests are unable to make it to the wedding make sure you weigh all the options before canceling or rescheduling.  Venues have different refund policies.  If all else fails, you can have a more intimate ceremony with a bigger celebration when the weather gets better!

-Prepare your guests for what to do in case of poor weather with a weather contingency plan. A tool like WedTexts could give your guests live updates on any location changes or time changes for events. You can also use WedTexts to text your guests to dress appropriately for the event (for example: bring an umbrella!). The more you keep your guests up to date on what’s going on, the happier they will be.
